Well in the absence of my trucks I found something else to burn my time and some money on down here in cali. I picked this 1988 Mustang up for 250$ from one of my buddies I deployed with. I had a 86 at one point and wished I had pretty much this car. It has the mass airflow sensor that I was after but it has things like ac and power locks and widows and the ugly turbine wheels. It is ruff but it was cheap so I'm not going to complain. The car for parts is well worth it. So since my trucks are up there and I'm down here I'll proly post more as I work on this thing.

I've been checking online and some mildly modified cars are still pulling 18 to 20 mpg around town and something like 22 high way. A guy with a supercharged 5.0 is at 16 city. I lucked out with this one since it has a mass air flow sensor, can get away with more mods and not have to burn a chip for it.

thats not bad, wonder how good of mpg it would get in a lifted jeep? You got such a good deal even using it for an engine swap would be cool.

If you do I'd use the explorer engine, all of them have better heads and the 95 1/2 has the gtp heads that are a little better then the rest. The explorer engine is pretty much the cobra engine, I wanna say they brought back the cobra in 93??? not sure but it has a larger throttle body, 65mm vrs 53mm that all the reg mustangs got. Besides the heads and throttle body can't remember the rest of the pros to them. I know all the fuel injected 5.0 stang engines and proly others too were roller cam. And as for me I'm going to keep my eye out for a explorer engine when out in the wecking yards, wanna build a mild 5L with mostly factory parts and I'm thinking about a little ranger might be cool.................. if I can find it cheap. Found some stuff I don't like too much on this car, saying it had a hard life would be putting it mildly. I'm surprised it isn't orange and have a 01 on the side by the way the floor pan looks.

So yesterday I decided to work on the wiring in the car and I decided to pull the dash and center console to have uninpeded access to the harness and it was a wtf was that guy doing moments when I started cutting. I cut three alarm harnesses out, one may have been remote start or door lock. Kinda seemed like some one put one in then some one else was scared to see what the other did and just spliced in to what ever else had power. I also pulled one sterio harness and the factory radio harnesss aswell since it was cut beyond repair. Still trying to trouble shoot the turn signals. I just got a print out of the wiring diagram today from all data, last night I was just getting rid of the unesesary stuff and reconnecting wires back to where they went. The extra wires The dash out Just the car

Boy that looks the same as in my jeep.. If I can help T-shoot anything with you, please let me know. What year is that and what car, doesn't have the mass air flow so I'm guessing if it's 86/87/ or 88 non cali car. I like the power steering pump resivior, curious which car/ explorer it came off.

I fixed the turn signals and fixed the power door lock switch, the solenoid on the driverside door might be shot though. Going to work on it some more tomorrow, and what do you got on the emissions Rock Dawg? My buddy told me it failed horribly but cant find the print out so when I get closer to trying to fix that after I get the rest of the electrical squared away I'll hit you up about that. I found a 95 1/2 explorer engine today I'm going to try to get in the next couple weeks for the heads and bottom end, the cars allready pretty peppy just don't like the ticking and oil leak from down low...................

Mine is out of a 88 Police cruiser (Lincoln town car) Non Cali car. You are correct no mass air flow, but has a cat, o2 and as far as I know all the emissions. In Oregon in order to pass DEQ you need to have a motor that year or newer to pass. So I have never tested it and the wiring is kind of strange with the factory 4.0 computer running everything except the motor, and the Lincoln town car computer only running the motor. The power steering pump is an after market one setup for the jeep steering box and bigger tires. Mine also has low oil pressure and has been ran hard like that, so don’t worry to much about that… Until it blows:-)..

I had a 86 once and it really took some abuse and same oil leak. I'm going to try to get the explorer engine (tomorrow) and probably run the short block with the car heads for now. I wasn't too excited when I learned ford went to hyper pathetic pistons in 93 with the 5.0. So while the explorer short block is in the car I'm thinking I'm going to go through the car engine and see how bad it is and if I can hone and re-ring it. The explorer heads I have to bring to a machine shop to have the back of em modified (drilled and tapped I think) to accept the cars air plumbing. The intake is really close to the gt40 intake and I read the swap is dramatic with the combination of parts I'll bolt on 40+ horsies which isn't too bad for stock parts. On the emission stuff, I'm still in cali and not too sure what their deal is but I found the diagnostic port and grounded the sti and flashed the codes. Came up with the egr not opening and the right bank o2 sensor not switching. I looked around and too many lines every where, what a head ache. I did find and fix one vac leak which is from the vac reg to the egr as well as find the reg was bad so I replaced it. I'll try to find the o2 sensor's harness and test it before I get a new sensor. After I get it to pass smog the fun stuff begins........................................... Dunno what info you got RockDawg but here's a good link www.fordfuelinjection.com/ I've found it pretty helpful since I don't have a manual, just a test light and a multimeter.

I'll probably run the car intake for the time being when I put this thing back together and with explorer heads and the e303 cam and a decent exhaust it should be just over a horse per cubic inch. I think I'll leave the ugly wheels for the time being, keep it looking like a poj.

A pic of the floor pan where it's cracked Where the floor ripped also and some one welded a plate in, mounts the front of the seat haven't gotten the carpet out yet to pressure wash it but since the dash is out I have pretty much every thing working now electrically speaking
