Talked to Jahmaal yesterday about the tree winch point. He said he still has to convince the upper people to go ahead with this idea we have. Since this is a new idea, and putting something directly into a tree may be an issue. The trees are ODF's main concern since that is one of the things they harvest up there. In short, there's a lot of Red-tape to go through. Jahmaal hasn't given up on the idea or forgotton about us. He has been busy and he will be off work til the first of the year.

Totally understandable. They wanted us to build the trail base up just above the rock face to cover roots so we wouldn't drive on them. Its very low on our list but still there all the same.

Was looking at pics of Lil Rubicon Trail that they had just been logged, and was thinking that the winch point bolt in the tree will be low enough Not to effect logging it. The other concern is if the bolt will make a knot vien in the tree making it undesirable to the loggers.

The bolt will stain the wood a blue color, but it will take a long time. The stain moves vertically through the tree at a rate of about 1/2" per year to a maximum of about two feet.

I wouldnt worry about if it made a single tree not logger approved. They cut and leave so many its amazing. Maybe if it has a winch point they will leave it alone.

I sent this new info to Jahmaal in hopes that it will help with the questions that the upper heads had asked him. He should be back in the office sometime this week.

Renee & me did a little day lighting on the Green side trail. Made it up to about the second water bar. Just trimmed back the tree limbs over hanging the trail. We might try do a little more next time we are up there, which is looking like Saturday 01/30/10.

Did some more day-lighting on the Green side near the top of 7-UP. Got the limbs trimmed back by the hole at the top of the Green Trail. It's starting to look good, my hope is that the 4 wheelers will favor the west side of the trail and push dirt into the hole, filling it in . We will continue to work on it each time we go up.

This spring we will deffently need to put some large rocks in those holes with gravel to try and keep them in place. The rolling dips are doing a great job still and won' need any attention I think. Also someone has put a campsite in just as you go down the 3 diamond. We might want to remove it because they are tearing up that area when the turn around.

a boulder filter at the top of the 3 diamond would probly keep most people from camping there. it was supposed to get a filter there eventually anyways. Just gotta figure a way to get boulders up there.

The only way I can see of putting boulders at the top is to haul them up in the back of pickup trucks and winch them into place.

I would only do it if odf helped and they could use their equipment. They have a track vehicle for transporting rock.
