the cable could have a piece of thick hose or some thing wrapped around it at the tree so it will not dig into the tree. the down side of that is whatever is installed on the tree portion of the cable would have to be inspected to make sure it is not wearing through into the tree. the other down side is making sure the cable is not easly removed as theft may be a problem. just my .2 cents

I believe Waterfall Trail is the only one that has a winch point, and it is cemented into the ground. I don't think there is a good place to cement a hook other then drilling into the ground and cementing one in. The tree idea is the cheapest fix for right now. Jahmaal thought the cable would be a better idea then nothing, in most cases, the wheeler is fusterated and just wants to get up the rock face, and may not take the time to put a tree strap around the tree. That is why we are thinking of the cable, it's thicker and won't tighten like a winch line thrown around the tree.

I'll carry a can of orange paint to make sure it is visible ;D Just need someone to attach it into place, I don't know how to do that

Got the Trail Signs all done for 7-UP, Renee & me are going to take both the Cherokees up Monday and hang up the new signs. Thanks chevtech for the decals Going to measure the winch point tree above the rock face on triple diamond of 7-UP , F250Diesel4x4 has some great ideas for setting up the winch point. Got to get a better idea of the area first.

Got the new signs up today, look good, and look just like the last ones...minus the holes. The winch point tree is 80" around, and there is a second tree that could be used as a winch point tree that is 60" around.

If we decide to go with the cable, I'll donate the cable clamps to splice it around the tree with. If we decide to run a bolt through it, I'll see about buying a long enough auger bit to go through one of those trees. The bolt would make a very solid anchor point, that is what we use at work for installing cable systems in trees. It doesn't hurt the tree any, the nuts and washers on each side seal up the hole to keep bugs out. Eventually the nuts grow over, but you can always add another loop to hook onto. A 3/4" bolt would probably work, but 1" would be bomb-proof. There is a logging supply store near my house, I'll check their prices on 3/4" and 1" forged eye nuts tomorrow. 80" circumference = 25" dia. 60" circumference = 19" dia. www.baileysonline.com/itemdetail.aspwww.buydrillbits.com/products/hss/gp2.php?c=Woodbit-AUGEREXTENSIONwww.buydrillbits.com/products/hss/gp2.php?c=Woodbit-SINGLESPUR

I didn't get a chance to talk with Jahmaal yesterday or today, was on a Search & Rescue mission in Cherry Grove. Will try to get a hold of him about the winch point idea.
