I have the rented kit at home, now I just have to figure out how to use the blasted thing :-).. When pressing the ball joints out, they "cup" insert on the press looks like it will mess up the threads on the old ball joint. Not a big deal as long as I can get it out, but if not... It would suck. It doesn't look like I have enough space to keep the nut on the end of the ball joint threads to protect them. I think I will try and find a write up on how to use this Ball joint press before using it. Just to make sure I know what I'm doing.

Hmmm... I see why It wasn't easy for me to figure it out now.. The kit I have rented doesn't have the "adapters" I need The kit is complete, but it has no place for the adapters shown above. I think I will need a different kit.

no kidding on the time and energy i am having the same problem with my drop pitman i tried using a gear puller i had with just a socket and no way in the world am i ever going to get it off that way and when i put on the impact i think i may have messed up the splines so i think i am just going to be using the stock one till i upgrade to a waggy steering box. so my advise for the impact is just to be careful with it .

i tried using a gear puller ... i put on the impact i think i may have messed up the splines so the splines on the output of the steering box? It probably was using the gear puller to pull a pitman arm... impact should have no effect on that... pitman arm pullers wont touch the splines...

stop putting money in that dana 30! with all that money you could have bought a 60, or be different and get some mogs

I always just used a hammer and a big socket to knock the ball joints in. Not the right way to do it but its better than driving on bad ball joints.

Yes, I'm still working on getting them out. I don't have the correct adapters to get the ball joints out. I will not work on it until Monday.
I feel like i'm throughing good money out the window by putting stock axles back in this Dana 30.... but I can't afford a Dana 60, and Even Alloy axle shafts are $600. Plus the Ujoints (another $300).. Just not worth it for a dana 30..

I use a 3lb hammer and an old kingpin to beat them out (make sure the lock ring is off). Then slide the open ring of the c-clamp over the ball joint shaft and the cup and cap on the treaded shaft to install them. Make sure you do the bottom first then the top, otherwise you won't be able to get the c-clamp threaded bolt thru the top one where the ball joint is out. I also make sure to clean out any dirt and put a little grease around where the ball joint goes in.

i think the splines may have already been twisted and when i went to pull it off it just got even worse i am debaiting weather or not to try my hand at torching it off and making sure the splines are good or not or just to pull it and go with a waggy one to start with.
