;)I have a 1979 dodge power wagon... iam looking to buy a winch for the front and was just wondering what people think... size and brand, cost vs. performance, what is best (remember i'm not rich)... would it be to hard to modify my double tube bumber to mount a winch or do i need a new bumber...

nothing smaller than an 8000lb in my opinion, bigger than that is probly better but I run an 8000 and it's treated me good.

I have heard some good things about milemarker's electric winches and I think you can get a 12000 for less than a grand. Check at 4 wheel parts they have them on special sometimes

Milemarker 12,000 lb will run you about $600 bones. Another place you might check out is on Ebay. They have a lot of dealers competing, as well as deals on used winches

I am running a 9.5 Ti Warn that I picked up from a friend that works at Warn for $700.00 on a reciever. it works great. Worst case you might need a block which is always good to have for directional control winching anyway. Good luck and happy shopping ;D

4wheel parts has a milemarker 8000 on sale for 399.00 not a bad deal. Snatch block is a great addition. Even if you have a 16000lb winch you need a snatch block because to recover yourself a straight pull isn't always an option.

Snatch block is a great addition. Even if you have a 16000lb winch you need a snatch block because to recover yourself a straight pull isn't always an option. If I wouldn't have had one last weekend we would have destroyed one entire side of a toyota dragging it out of a culvert against the trees. The block allowed us to pull it straight up the side and it came out without a scratch.

I bought the Harbor Freight mile marker clone on sale for $249, I've only used it 10 times in the last year, but definetly a good deal.

I had the Harbor Freight 8,000 lb, works great, have a buddy that swears by it! I upgraded to the 12,ooo mile marker at 4wheel parts, @600 bucks, but works very well! Gotta have a block, they are very handy!
