the double tub bumpers on my truck are made by smittybilt out of cali... they look to be fairly thick tub...

My rule of thumb is to buy the biggest baddest ass winch your budget will allow, For your truck, 8k at the very least. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
Another good point is to make sure you have enough battery and alternator to run the winch you have picked out.
A 12k warn is worthless connected to a 350 cca battery being charged by a 32 amp alternator.
