Not sure on where to go but since I'm in the same boat as you, any info would be good. Did your rod brake? I know mine was knocking along till I hit 205 then it got a little louder and started squealing a little bit, meaning I think the baring started to spin around. Hope I got enough left to be able to turn the crank and fix it. I think so. and I think it probly put a hole in the block. It was a 402. I have a good 454 and a bad 454. The good one has the end of the crank wore down from a brocken ballancer key. The bad one had a rod knock. I will just have to get on the phone and see what kind of deals I can come up with on machine work.

I called around to machine shops today. Sounds like around $2000 with me doing the assembly. I can get re-man from parts stores starting arround $1700 and a crate motor from gm starting around $2200 anyone have any experiance with crate or reman motors. Some of them have as much as 3 yr. warrantee's but stipulate not warranteed for offroad, comercial or marine aplications... CRAP.. Watch for crappy cheepo on craigs list???

still might. I'm weighing options that might not end up with me having to do this again soon. The good one realy needs to be rebuilt all the way.

talked to the manufacturer today and it turns out that you have to have it installed by a ase certafied mechanic and if there is a failure you have a cettafied mechanic repair it and they re-ebburce you. "NO THANKS" I talked to Modrall's machine shop today. I think I'm going to have them re-build my good motor. $1600ish with them assembling it and to an extent backing there work(with a full understanding of the vehicle it is going into and what I do with it) They said If I spin a bearing or anything like that in the first 6 months they'll fix it for free. after that they will fix it at cost. SOUNDS PRITY GOOD TO ME I am thinking I will drop it off tomorrow. They said I would have it back in about a week. I better get in some good wheeling this summer.

I used to work for chevrolet and if it is a stock motor and not a performance motor then anyone can put them in and gm will warranty them, parts and labor. If it's a performance motor then gm will only pay for parts if someone else puts it in. At the time I was working there stock motors had a 3yr 100,000 mile warranty and performance motors had a 12month 12k warranty.

$2200 might not be bad with a 3yr 100,000 mile warranty, parts and labor.

Getting anxious to get the motor back from the shop. I should have it back Monday or Tuesday. My plan is to take the truck to the shop and start pulling the motor this weekend. As long as there is room in there for me.

We use Moddralls for some work every once in a while, they are reasonable and do excellent work. Good choice, I didn't even think of them.
