Got the grill shape cut out now trying to figure out if I want to cut out the center like the Jeep grill for the air to run through or to do some sort of custom pattern.

I think I figured out my over heating problem. The Vortec 5.7L was overheating when I got it and I pulled the thermostat and the temperature is running 130. A little too cool. In researching this the Vortec's that had the belt setup ran reverse rotation water pumps which I think is my cooling problem because I have a V belt setup. I pickup up a short water pump and an alternator bracket I think will work with the short water pump but also need the relocate the power steering pump. Anyone have and Idea of Brackets for the short water pump accessories?

On my VW i didnt run a t stat... i ran a "custom" washer to reduce flow... it worked quite well and it never got 20* hotter than normal temp when racing...
what did you end up cutting out for the grill?

I took a t-stat apart and smashed it flat for a restrictor plate. But still running at 120-130 and not even registering when idling. I heard it should be running at 165 to get best power.
I haven't cut a pattern into the grill yet. Spent all weekend at the swap meet. Thinking either a large Chevy emblem or similar to stock.

Got the exhaust done. Sounds a lot different just by switching headers.
Also built drive line hoops and installed a scatter shield of the transmission drum. PNW added a few new rule this year.
Still need to finish the steering around the new headers. Ordered 3/4" DOM, .757 Hiems, and a quick disconnect steering wheel hub. Should be nice when done.

Looking good! It has to be loud with those headers and glasspacks.

It's not a lot louder than it was. There's a good rumble at idle and cracks when given gas. Most of the other race jeeps run super traps or other mufflers that really don't do much, so this one is still one of the quietest. They have opened the Straddleline ORV for Jeep racing as well, and with the 105dba sound restriction those other rigs will need to add better mufflers.

I've seen aluminum foil used to cover foam before applying resin. Looks good though, really changes the look.

Thanks PB1
Went racing this weekend and got third in barrels and obstacles. Ran into a tree in the top eliminator and slid into a tree sideways in team relays. Bent my slider pretty good and side bar.
I put three pillows behind my daughter and she was able to reach the peddles. She ran barrels and got 1st and 2nd in obstacles for girls drivers age 0-9. She was really impressive for an 8 year old drifting corners and barrels.
Besides the rain and mud everyone had a great time. There were more street and trail rigs running too.
