I got my brothers blazer together and it runs great. I fixed all the usual motor swap problems and told him to fetch his ride. As soon as he looked at it the starter went out. I went through a total of 7 good starters and wasted them. The flexplate looks usable, the battery is fully charged, wires tight, no noticable shorts or pinched wires. I'm at a loss on this and need some help so I can get my truggy to the shop area.

what exactly is the starter doing? Does it need shims. The cables are good at the ends? Good starter, good cables, good battery, no start = tight motor? incorrect timing? need shims? ign wire?

ign timing is about dead on and all wires look good. It looks like the starter won't fully engage. I started it atleast 20 times while fixing little leaks and other bs involved when swapping motors I tried some shims but it made it worst

I replaced the starter a couple more times and fixed some inline fuses and got it started, swapped the carbs out and got it running real good then the starter went out again All lines are new, tried shims, battery is good, hot wired to make sure it wasn't the ignition switch and don't know what else to do

if you jump the starter at the solenoid will it start everytime? I had trouble with the fusable link at the firewall. I cut out the fusable link and ran a straight wire.

It won't work that way either. It's like the starter gear is to small. But they are a matched set.

what size motor? didnt 305's have a different size fly wheel? of course I think they were smaller and that would just let the starter free spin.

the motor I just put in is a 350 and I used the flexplate and starter off the old motor. It pulled a major munch on the starter gear. I tried around 9 other starters of the big and small size. I'm thinking I might have to get a new flexplate and starter

;D Checked that first, I have done that before I slid the t-converter back and put the skinny cusom wrench in and made sure I got the flexplate tight too. When it was running I looked at the flexplate to check for a wobble but didn't see any. I guess I'll play with the plasma for awhile and think about it and hope I don't get to close to the blazer

I know it made noises when starting prior to the swap but thought it was due to the ruined motor. I'm gonna pull the tranny and swap flexpletes and try again

It was a cracked flexplate. I guess I should have cleaned and checked it. Thanks for the help Jason
