Good Morning!
As we are now in fire season, I wanted to share the following particulars about Forest Grove District Recreation Areas, Dispersed Camping, and Fire. For Recreation use, this covers the areas of the Highway 6 corridor west to Kings Mtn Trailhead and the Highway 26 corridor west to the Sunset rest area. Please share with employees who don't have access to e-mail.
DISPERSED CAMPING
Dispersed camping is permitted pretty much anywhere on the Forest Grove District, on landings at the end of spur roads, in pullouts - wherever there is a parking place off of the road with a bare spot to pitch a tent. There are some exceptions....
Dispersed camping is NOT PERMITTED once you pass through the gates going into Reehers Camp, Gales Creek, and Elk Creek Campgrounds. In those facilities camping is limited to the developed and numbered fee campsites.
Dispersed camping is NOT PERMITTED at any of the Day Use or Trailhead areas. (Rogers Camp, Summit Trailhead, Storey Burn Trailhead, Rogers Camp, Deyoe Creek Trailhead, Browns Camp Day Use Parking Area, University Falls Trailhead, Kings Mountain Trailhead)
Dispersed camping is NOT PERMITTED within 25 feet of water. (Particularly fish-bearing streams.)
People are not allowed to "construct" a dispersed camp by removing vegetation, making parking areas, or trails.
Dispersed camping is NOT PERMITTED in areas posted closed to camping. (There will be a sign with the department logo on it.)
Dispersed camping is NOT PERMITTED on helipads identified in the fire operations plan. (We are working on posting these.)
CAMPFIRES DURING REGULATED USE
During regulated use on the Forest Grove District, campfires are only permitted in the ODF installed, metal fire pits in the developed fee sites and day use picnic sites in the following campgrounds: Reehers Camp, Gales Creek, Elk Creek, Browns Camp, and Stagecoach Horse Camp.
If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call or drop into my office.
