No serious update yet, still trying to get the gears installed in the 14b. The crush sleeve is seriously kicking my butt. I've been trying to get it to crush off and on for about 3 weeks now. Nothing I can do will make it budge. Found these online and going to give it a try, 14b FF solid spacer conversion from East Coast Gear Supply... Using it I won't have to put another crush sleeve in if I ever have to change a seal, just tighten the pinion nut and done. Hoping this will work. Also just got my diff covers in from Ruffstuff Specialties. Both covers for the D60 and 14b are 3/8" thick with counterbored holes and a drain plug. Of course because I shaved some off the bottom of the axle had to do the same to a brand new $$ diff cover. Hoping when the solid spacer comes in I can get the 14b gears done and the axle bolted in, then get the D60 ones done and bolt that in. After that I should be able to get it off the jackstands.

i broke a breaker bar on mine so i just use shims with the old one.. I know what you mean, I had a 3/4" drive breaker bar with a 4 foot piece of DOM on it and still couldn't get it to budge, I was getting some nice flex out of the breaker bar though. Even put it back in my 12ton press and tried to get it to start crushing, I maxed that out as well. Finally got frustrated and walked away before I broke something. Hurry up! ! ! We can run the granny trails labor day weekend together for test and tune Don't think I'll be done by then. Still a lot more stuff to be done after the axles are bolted in. If we have a Xmas tree/toy run this year it might be done, lol.

Yeah, I know. Although when I have something in there is when I usually have time to go out and work on it, lol. When the solid spacer gets in, I should be able to make quick work of the pinion, then just have to press on the diff bearings and set it up. Finished fitting the diff cover today. Axle just needs paint and gears and it's ready to install.

Got to spend most of the day in the garage. Haven't been able to do that for a while with the baby. Rear axle is almost done, gears are in and almost set. Heat started getting the best of me, so decided to call it a day. Currently sitting at .009" backlash, recommended is .005"-.008", but allowable is .003"=.012". Going to try one more slot on each side, if it's too much, will just put it back and leave it. After the pattern check the axle will be ready to bolt in.
It was trying to fight me the entire way. Bolted in the pinion with the guard and supplied bolts and 2 stripped on me. After pulling them out, found out there was only about 1/4" of the bolt holding them into the axle when the hole is over 3/4" deep. Need to get a little longer bolts and it should be fine, supplied bolts torqued fine without the guard, so they should work with the longer ones.

Yes, that is all. You should still check the runout on them to make sure they are true. Never know if the wheels are perfectly round.

Got a little more done on the truck tonight. Got the rear axle mostly buttoned up. Only thing left is install wheel bearings and put the hubs and axles back in. That will be done after I get the axle slid to the rear and bolted up. Started working on the rusted bolts to get the old rear shocks. Plan is next Wednesday is get the old shocks out, the axle bolted up and put the rest of the way together. Then get the D60 slid over and start working on installing the gears and detroit.

Rear axle is in and bolted up. Still need to put the hubs and axle shafts in, but that can wait till tomorrow or Friday. Took a little effort by myself to get it slid under the truck but I got it done. Not too bad for about 2 hours of sleep since yesterday afternoon. Need to do some touch ups on the paint, but still need to put shock tabs on anyway, so it was expected. DIY4X 1/2" pinion guard and disc brake brackets, also new Spicer 1410 yoke with ubolt straps. Ruffstuff Specialties cover with countsunk holes and drain. Bottom was trimmed to match the amount that was cut off the axle. The ubolts will get cut down after I get the truck off jackstands to see if I need any degree shims to get the correct pinion angle or zero rates. It's going to be interesting to see how much the springs sag after it's off the jackstands. Right now with no weight on the springs the center of the axle is about 13" from the ground, the center of my tires is going to be about 21". Definately going to need a roller set of tires to get it out of the garage. Getting a little closer at least.
