Alright this may sound dumb but I have an idea for you to think about. Its to keep rain water out when your driving, if you do the elbow. I will try to describe it to make sence, but if you have a 4 in pipe you get a 4.5 in elbow, and a small peice of 4.5 in pvc. you take the 4.5in x 1/2 in tall pipe and cut sections out roughly every 1/4 to 1/2 in with a chop saw. then a 1/2in down your snorkle tube you place glue the pieces on. Then you slide your elbow over these glued on peices and clamp or glue or both. Then with this setup when driving, towing or whatever the air will force the water to the rear of the elbow the water will siphen out through the spaces between the middle ring and the air will be ramed down the intake. This is a cheap verson of what the arbs do, and it works extremely well. Eh well hope it makes some sence. I guess take it for what its worth, but the setup should keep out way more water/moisture than just using a regular elbow and help force air down through the rest of the ducting.

I see what your saying. Good idea! I didn't realize all that was goin on in the arb's. I had a bad expierence with a forward facing elbow. I was climbing the water fall at sandlake, it was narrow at the time with vertical walls of sand on both sides. I end up against the wall on the passanger side, the elbow acted like a scoop and completely filled the snorkel with sand. I run my elbow backwards now.

Did the sand do any damage? I always wondered if running a snorkle backwards would starve the motor some, obviously not a problem on the trail, but on the road. In chemistry lab when you need to use a vacume to draw air out sometimes you have a deal that draws water over an opening backwards, causing a drawing or vacume effect. Do you notice a diferance when not on the trails and running backwards? Just curouse,

If your worried about power then ya shouldn't use a snorkle. I know when I hook mine up it just doesnt feal the same on the throttle. I like the way the filter is in the center of the snorkle instead of at the end.

The filter set up worked perfectly I didn't find any sand beyond the filter. It just wouldn't run until I cleaned it out. Starved for air. I don't run this rig on the street its now where near legal. Not to mention scary as hell . So performance on road is not an issue. Ididn't notice any power loss but there must be with so much stuff for the air to travel through. the reason I built the snorkel is cause every time I went muddin I would cover my normal round K&N filter with mud then I would have to clean it, they don't last when you clean them every run and at $100 a pop I had to do something so I built the snorkel to house the filter to keep it clean.

Should work awesome. and if your never off the trail its better to run it backwards and never have to worry about it. Its an awesome rig cant wait to see a video of it in action.

here is what happened to my brother coming down. I think the first time we went up it was the end of summer of '04. We made a trail up but the trail down only quads were doing. I had seen some sami's up it that summer so we went up it. Well it wasnt fullsize friendly at the time but it was after.
