Moved the tank out of the cab and into the bed. Since I didn't have any straps holding the tank in I used an old queen-sized bed frame and made my own. I started with this: After cutting, bending, and welding two of them to bolt to the bed floor and also at the top of the tank. Here they are just set in place. I had this piece left over from another project that I will make a duplicate of (better fitting of course) and use for the other side to secure the top of the tank to the top of the bed rail.

Last Monday I was rushing to swap axleshafts in the truck due to the left side spitting one u-joint cap out, the right side breaking the ears on the stub shaft around the u-joint, and guessing that the left side axleshaft was broken somewhere. After pulling it all apart and getting the left side shaft out, I was amazed to find the splines were missing. Luckily I had just found my stick magnet and extended it into the housing to try and fish out the rest of the shaft. It worked like a charm. The shaft broke right where it necks down to the splines. It'll make a sweet shift knob now.

cool breakage... didnt see how you managed that but it will definatly make a cool shifter. Keep in mind I've got the front diff welded. So my best guess as to the order of breakage is the left u-joint cap spit out, then the left axle shaft broke. With the left side not being driven anymore all the power is then transferred to the right side which then broke the ears on the stub shaft.

your lucky the magnet worked. My seals were tight enough every time it happened to me the broken piece would pull past the seals.

Do you run hydro or hydro assist? Just curious how it is turning?

LOL makes sence.... I didnt know you were welded up front? Do you run hydro or hydro assist? Just curious how it is turning? It is the stock '72 steering with the only addition being a lifted steering arm on the axle. No hydro or hydro assist. It's easy turning the steering wheel, but the chances of the truck going where you want it to are pretty small on hard packed surfaces.
