Well there are 3 stages to working on 7-up.
1st stage:
Get all the downed trees removed from trail heads and fill predetermined holes back in and place appropriate drainage at the heads of all three openings. This should be accomplished with minimal man power if a back hoe is utilized.
plan:
This may not work for most but with the short notice I will be trying to get a back hoe during the week and will head up after work(2pm) and begin the trail opening. Could be as soon as later this week or the beginning of next week. It would be great if a couple people could show for this in the afternoon. Chainsaws, chain and a lil elbow grease and the trails will be open for the season. You will need to sign a waver at the forestry office. When I know a day for sure anyone interested can get more details from me.
Phase 1 complete
stage2:
East trail entrance; Install rolling dips with water drains and add rock to west trail for hardening. All proposed drains hardening areas are marked. This section of trail is currently rated more difficult and at a later date more rock and boulders can be placed to better suit trail for it's rating.
West trail entrance; Install rolling dips with water drains, improve existing drains and block off old loop at top of trail. All proposed drains are marked. This trail is designated easy and will remain that designation until all trail repairs are made at all other areas of 7-up since this is the most accessible way to the top of the trail with equipment. After repairs are made then this trail will be developed to a difficult rating and boulders will be added throughout the trail in locations to be determined later.
Rock face entrance;
Trail to be re designated double diamond. It is already a black diamond with most difficult rating. The entrance of the trail will simply be opened for now leaving holes and dirt mounds for difficulty. The downed trees will be used to block off bypass. When road upgrades are complete for timber sale we will review trail head and possibly move it 10-15 yards adding a switch back. Trail markers will be made to establish trail boundaries to stop the widening of the trail. The 2 dead trees at the top of the rock face have been looked over by odf and will be downed before they become safety hazards. The downed tree will be used to block unauthorized by pass at the rock face. Currently being looked into is man made winch points to placed at a couple locations to be determined later. Also drains are to be installed at marked locations. At the top entrance to this section after drains are installed a filter will be placed. It will consist of approx 20' of medium boulders.
plan
designate work parties beginning in the month of August and continuing thru October as weather permits. Dates to be determined in the near future.
3rd phase:
maintain and inspect trail regularly and make changes to drains or filters as needed. After prolonged use the repairs made will be reevaluated and if further action will be needed then a new course of action will be taken.
