Hi all,
In case you were curious (I was), below is the law requiring OHVs (dirt bikes, quads, 4x4s) to have spark arrestors on federal lands (CFR stands for Code of Federal Regulations):
36CFR261.52 (j) Operating or using any internal or external combustion engine without a spark arresting device properly installed, maintained and in effective working order meeting either: (1) Deptartment of Agriculture, Forest Service Standard 5100-1a: or (2) Appropriate Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) recommended practice J335(b) and J350(a).
Of course, the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, Sand Lake, and Christmas Valley dunes are the only areas in Oregon open to OHV use that do not require a spark arrestor.
