My friend wants to swap out his 3.0 for a 22re. Is the tranny the same? Will the 22re bolt upto the v6 tranny? Other then swapping out the wiring harness and computer is there any thing else I'll need?

You need to switch the harness and computer, if I remember right I think all you have to do is switch out the bellhousing but I'm but to sure on that one

I don't think that the 22re bell housing will work but i'm not sure thats right. I know the motor mounts are in different spots wiring, exhaust, ecu, starter, radiator hoses, air intake tube and MAF

I think the 22ret works with the v6 setup but I'm sure its a different pattern though. So pretty much gut the whole thing and swap everything for a 22re or find a wrecked truck an cab swap it

you have to swap trans, t-case everything! the 22ret used a R151F which is a v6 5spd that uses a 4cyl case, but the 22RE only bolt to a 4cyl tranny. just about everything is different.

looking for better engine? or cheaper? whatever, best i could think of would be find yourself a good lower milage cressida Inline 6, pretty much same engine as the supra 6
copy and past from pbb
The bell housing from a N/A 7m-ge supra manual transmission will bolt up to a W or G series 4 wheel drive transmission and the 7m and 5m blocks. W58 is the transmission code for the needed bell housing.
lots of info, and if your not looking for a turbo supra motor, shouldnt be TOO HARD, to find a M motor... looking into this myself..
I say, unless he has more time than money (i do lol) hes going to be rewiring anyway... go with a bigger engine...

i would never swap in a 3.0 they are an all around bad motor. make little power, suck the fuel, and have head gasket issues out he wazzoo. I had a 3.0 in my daily driver 4runner and I just swapped a 3.4 in a few months ago and it was without a doubt the best thing that ever happened to that thing. tons more power, and better mpg. even with no 02 sensors I still got 21 on the freeway as where before i was lucky to get 18. if he has a 22re might as well swap in a 2rz or 3rz they have a considerable amount of power for a 4cylinder and can take some abuse. plus it will be the easiest swap because you can you the same trans if it had a w56. I have one in my scout 5 wires was all i had to wire but i have a stand alone harness
