I dont see any need for air tools but a tank could be handy reseating a tire.

Doing it without a tank should be fine. It will just take a little longer. Before I got my tank on my truck it would take 3-4 minutes per tire to go from 12psi to 30psi. With the tank it dropped that time down to 1-2 minutes. This is the pressure switch I used on my truck.... www.viaircorp.com/Parts/pswitchrelay.htmlI liked the fact that the relay and pressure switch was all in one package.

I went to portland compressor and got ajustable pressure switch. Most on ele compressors will have that option so find one that will crank up to pressure u like and match it with a blow off vavle. Mine is set at 150 psi. Friend of mine has no switch he just let pump till blow vavle blows lollipop
