Poorboy Trash Cleanup

So, in a continued effort to keep areas clean that our group members use, we decided to go down to the local river hole (aka: The Donkey Ponds) in Dayton, and pick up as much trash as we could. This area is actually private property, and the owners have graciously allowed anyone to come down and use this river access; however, people have taken this for granted and have abused the priviledge by dumping trash, waste (human and animal), camping illegally, and generally being disrespectful. If the issues continue, the beach access will be gated off, and no one will be able to enjoy the cool spot on a hot day.

Shrek, Kristi, Marty, Nate (Kriti's son), and I went down there today and collected almost 15 bags of trash all up and down the shoreline. We then handed out complimentary trash bags to people along the water, and politely asked them to please just pick up after themselves before they leave. We're not trying to get "gold stars" or anything, just wanted to let you guys know how we're representing the group in our own home towns.

Right on, thats a lot of trash, i dont know how people throw their trash in the woods/river/beach, and think nothing of it... mind boggling.

How did the people respond when you handed them trash bags? Did they seem like they gave a crap?

When julie and marty handed out the bags everyone was greatful and said thank you for cleaning up the mess! but of course no one thinks its there trash that matters. lol One group asked me if i was picking up cans for money and i snickered as i picked up there mess and said no just trying to keep our beach clean and open, I think they felt about an inch tall lol but they left there area clean in the end so i'd say it worked!

Good job guys, man I haven't been down there in like 5-6 years. Glad someone took some enishative[sp] and did some good down there instead of tearing it up for once. Are the big woops along the trees still there? Those were cool to drive over when they were new.

Hey ridgerunner, yea there are some whoops and a a few little spots to play, but nothing to challenging but they still manage to need us to pull them out all the time. lol i think i pulled 5 veh out the other day! kinda funny watching all the sheeple!

10-4 on the not very challenging, my buddy Scott(Blazink) went throutgh all of it with no front driveline in his burb a bunch of years ago, before the whoops were there. We always called the beach the Dayton gravel bar and the donkey ponds were a left at the bottom of the hill. There were many a pool league night in the berg that ended with "I'll show you what my rig can do, lets go to the ponds!!"

People were cool when we handed out the bags because we explained to them that unless we keep the area clean, the ponds will be shut down to public access. We're planning on going down on a busy hot weekend and doing some more trash clean up and possibly a BBQ to get the word out to people about needing to be more respectful of this property. We figure if people see us cleaning up, and we hand out more bags, things might actually change for the better.

Hopefully more people start understanding that... You should see the woods around scappoose/st helens, It infuriates me when i drive through woods and see all the trash... Last year during elk season i found a dump spot, I dug through it and found a piece of mail with an address on it. I turned it into the cops, but i dont think anything was really done about it. Next time, I might just go talk to the people myself.... I was tempted to load the trash up and drop it in their driveway, My old man talked me out of it.

I see keystone light, and Keystone ice cans the most.. haha. so keep an eye one people who drink that stuff

We will keep you in mind, the more the marrier. We would have announced something about it but it was a spur of the moment and we were tired of people abusing the privileges we are allowed. I am trying to get a clean up down there hopefully mid next month, so let me know if you may be interested. we had fun and got to show that poorboy is about allot more than just tearing up our rigs. This next time though if we can get enough people together i would like to also do a BBQ aswell. I will post a date and time when i get things a little more figured out.
