So my 89 Cherokee needs a trans. It has the peujunk in it and 1st/2nd gear syncros are shot. I'd like to find a AX15+T-case to swap in. Where would be the best place to look and what kind of price is reasonable to pay?

I have never done this swap, but I like the AX15. I have the AX15 in my jeep behind a built 5.0 and only broke it once because of a heavy right foot.... I would say don't pay more then $350 for one in good condition though (I found them NEW for $650 on E-bay a couple years ago when I broke mine), and get a NP231 T-case (if you don't already have one) used they go for about $150. Below is a good price on the T-case and ARB locker (if you want one). I don't know the person, I just looked on line for you. portland.craigslist.org/wsc/pts/3028974224.htmlYour bell housing should bolt up (Do you have a 6.0L stright 6)? and your drivelines should work. Just double check the with a tape to be 100% sure. Being that you are going stick to stick, exec... I think you will be OK on you linkeages as well. I'm not sure on your skid plate, or clutch setup. Best of luck to you.

Was hoping I could just pull the trans & t-case at a pick & pull. Just want to be careful and not get junk. Does anyone have experience with any of the local wrecking yards?

I paid 400 for mine, sold my manual for 400 and build a wiring harness (harness took 3 hours including install). It was pretty easy. Stu Olsen off-road page had the instructions for what wires goto what. I put 15k on the new tranny including hard off-roading every other weekend and never had any problems. I sold it to an oil guy and its gettin wheeled and driven around the country and still no problems. When all was said and done I had a 50 bucks (450bucks) total cost and it was way more fun to drive and wheel!

Charlie; (flying farm truck), works at the local pull Pick-n-Pull in Sherwood, but he just left today to help Poorboy1 on the "Top Truck Champion Challenge" down in California. They will not be back for a week or so. If you can wait that long, he may be able to help find/pull something for you for a small fee. I think most jeep Wranglers (1997-2008) will have the Tranny and T-case you are looking for.

94-96 Cherokees have the combo I'm looking for as well. Willing to put up with a 91+ (internal slave). Tons of Cherokees sitting in wrecking yards. I can wait till he gets back, no worries. Thx
