I am doing a conversion on my 83 Ford ranger I am putting the axles from my 78 Bronco under it I am going to be running 35's The axles are D44 and ford 9 they have 373's in there I thought about re gearing it before I take it out and pay with it or could I wait and save up for good gears any input would be great

in my opinion you will be fine worst case you run low range when on the trail. my old 79'bronco had 3.50's with 35's on the street it was just fine i just ran low range while wheeling

For playing in low range you would be ok but high way might be a little harder to hold it's own ,unless your running a v8. I would play and up grade when you can you have nothing to lose plus with the higher gears it will be harder to break stuff wheeling lol

Which engine? I'm hoping it's got a 2.8, a 2.3 wouldn't like 35's and 3.73's...

is what most the rangers came with from the factory.... and even them 33's are pushing it and way to much clutch slippage on the trail even in low range... add the weight of the fullsize axles and even bigger tires and your going to be hurting in the power department and the clutch will not like you.. even if it is a v8.
now if its an auto, you can prob get away with it for a bit, but i would consider swaping in some 456 gears ... thats my 2c

I do have the 2.8 looking for a 302 to build for it I was thinking of waiting until I re-gear I was thinking 4.56 maybe 4.88 Just in case I decide to run 37's but then I wonder about the axle shafts and lugs. I am trying to find a duel friction clutch that I can run for now until I drop in a 302 with a C6 and NP204 t-case I already have the tranny for it

You can buy ujoints with 2 different sized caps. I know Baxter's sells them, nor sure who else.
