Alright I'm buying my buddies 2000 ranger that's already lifted. And what's a good axle to just get it straight axled

most use either a D30 from a Jeep or an early bronco D44 if you can find one, or get a full width ford D44, narrow the passenger side and get a replacement early bronco inner passenger shaft...

i was thinkin a D30. the biggest tires going on it are possibly 37's but it comes with pretty much brand new 33's with like 1,000 miles on them and a set of 35 boggers. i just want to get more suspension travel outta it like my yota

dont bother with a dana 30, go with a 44 if your gonna upgrade make it woth while, find a older ford for cheap as you can. then you have most the stuff for the swap

I just don't remember if the ranger is a drive drop or passenger drop from the t case it'd be move to find a HP44

I think the older narrow track waggy's had both left and right side drops depending on the year and the width should be pretty close. I looked as a flat fender a while back that had the long tub cut in the middle and butt welded back together. I would think it would need a good brace or should have been sleeved to keep it from coming apart.

rangers are driver drop.
The '98 and up don't have much available in the front suspension department, the '97 and earlier are a lot better for stock axle components...
If you found a driver drop waggy that should be a good swap, you would just have different wheels in the front than rear unless you got adapters for the rear. If the truck has a 4.0L engine it has a 28 spline 8.8" axle and is reasonable for strength, not as good as a 31 spline but not bad, even though it has the same shafts as the 7.5" axle it has stronger spider gears which are the weak link...

Ya it's got the 4.0 in it. That's why I was gonna with a D30 and I can coil up front and have some good travel inthe front end

4.0's are good for wheelin, they have a low power curve...

You could get a 82-91 wagoneer Dana 44 and swap the outers off a half ton dodge 80s version had 5x4.5 bolt pattern with unit bearings and keep the stock bolt pattern . Or like you where saying a Dana 30 would work for dd

Rockdog has the D30 in the front of his jeep and running 39.5's. He doesn't wheel it hard and has seemed to have pretty good luck.

From '81 on all half tons were 5x5.5 with lockouts till '85 when they went to "auto locking hubs".

Good info , I am not a dodge guy but knew they offerd 1/2 ton Dana 44 with the 5x4.5 bolt pattern thanks for clearing up the modle years for me.
