Timber Harvest Operations at Jordan Creek Staging Area
The “Sargent Jordan” timber sale work will commence as early as March 14th and could continue until mid May. The sale is located on both sides of the Jordan Creek OHV staging area as well as the Jordan Creek Trail. For your own safety, respect temporary trail closure signs. Please be aware that Jordan Creek Road will be used as a haul route by log trucks. Typically, operations will occur Monday- Friday but Saturday log hauling is possible.
Several leave trees marked with large yellow W’s have been identified around the staging area and the access trail. These marked trees will not be harvested. In addition any trees larger than 25” diameter will be retained as well. The trees being retained will provide shade for the campsites and provide a scenic buffer. Jordan Creek Trail will be cleared of slash and re-opened upon the completion of active harvest operations. ODF will utilize inmate crews, OHV equipment operators, and possibly volunteers to clear the slash. Sale operations will involve ground yarding and ODF is working with operator to minimize the number of times equipment crosses the trail and employing a lop and scatter technique for the slash that will discourage off trail riding and illegal trail creation. Operator will work to clear slash from trail while in the area of the trail as well. A buffer has been established around the 42’ trail bridge and leave trees have been marked around the designated dispersed sites. Part of the goal of the operation is to establish conifers between the road and the creek. Staging area is scheduled to open May 19th and operations should be complete by this time so minimal disruption of regular day use and camping is expected.
Thank you for your cooperation!
