First off... this is an askance for help. I have had the worst luck with carbs and would LOVE LOVE LOVE someone that can tune a carb to set aside some time to help... I might even be able to pay you for it well, the Q-jet finally took a major dump on my blazer... so, while waiting for the swap meet this weekend I threw on an old edelbrock that I had laying around. 1406, electric choke... eh, whatever. So, I take the time to attempt to tune it ... I turn both screws (idle mix screws) in all the way, then back them out one full turn... start the rig. back out the left (passenger) screw a quarter, nothing. half, nothing. screw it back in to where it was. back out the right a quarter, RPM jump. Half, RPM jump. three quarter RPM jump. Full turn, no change. back in a half, RPM drop. 1/8 turn, RPM jump. 1/8 turn, no change. back it in 1/8 turn, reset idle. turn left screw all the way in ... no idle change. take the screw completely out... no change. huh? So, I set it where the right one is set and call it a night, figure it just has to get me to work one fricken day and I will either buy a carb at the meet or buy one on our account... Now I am puzzled though... Anyone have any thoughts? I am all ears

dirty carb... tarnish or dust or bugs from sitting. Remove it and pull the needles out and spray carb cleaner in to the holes and blow out gunk. Reinstall and set as before and turn down one at a time to near death of motor and up to highest idle and its set. do not go past were it hits highest idle. I give it a little throttle and reset 3-4 times and it usually does fine.

Ok... that I can do.
My next issue is tuning it in general.
I got a case of beer for the guy that wants to help tune it for me.
I dont know chit about tuning carbs... its the one piece other than trannies I have intentionally stayed away from my whole life.

ok, so now its running good, nice n clean idle at 800, 650 or so in gear, nice and smooth. great power from the line... then she stumbles a little during a gradual increase toward WOT. it picks back up and is fine ... but I think I can get more oomph out of WOT and need to get that stumble fixed. So, I think I am going to swap out the step-up springs to the highest (8" hg) to see if that solves the stumble. Once thats gone I think I can get away with a little richer secondaries so I may look into a rod change or a jet change. but then again, once the little stumble is fixed, I might just leave it the hell alone.
