I'm working on a mockup design for a winch bumper on my truck and would like a few questions answered. How much clearance, if any, is needed between the winch and the fairlead? The black box will provide 1/2" of clearance all the way around the winch. The blue line will be the very front of the bumper where the fairlead will attach to. I plan for this to be one piece of steel and the winch will bolt directly to this. Charlie

if you mount the winch with mounting bolts forward then that distance is all you need for the fairlead.

Thanks. Now here is how it's all going to be mounted Do you think the four bolts per side will be strong enough to pull from? Obviously I'm not finished yet, as I've still got to come up under the head lights and around the fenders. I'm still undecided as to if I will tie the side of the bumper into the side of the frame with some sort of a brace. Charlie

using the mounts you have there should be strong enough.
