well im collecting parts for my 79 bronco 1 ton modification as of now i have. dana 70 w/4.88 gears(most likly will be lincoln locked) ordered disk brake brackets today shackle flip (will be installed when axle is ready) with a few minor parts the dana 70 should be installed with-in the month

got my disk brake brakets today from ruff stuff specialties 3/8" thick a40 steel sky manufacturing shackle flip

started messing with the 70 today i have to switch axle housings cause this one is to wide for the bronco so pig pin is trading me housings the spiders will be weilded before installed in the other housing shaft compairison the one on the left is from the dana 70 the one on the right is from a rockwell 2 1/2 ton left rockwell-right dana 70

not sure what tires yet got other things on my mind. i didnt think that the shafts were that close in size till i put them next to each other

Thanks for the pic's.. that is good to know. I wonder witch one is stronger in a brake test with the dana 70 being a fine spline. Does eneyone know if the dana 70 is stronger?

i don't know but could always buy some aftermarket shafts than your major worrie would be the gears

I am pretty sure that in break tests that the rockwell does better than the d-70... When I taked to the place I got my alloys from they said the d-70 is more prone to breakage than the corp14bolt... Plus with the rocks you can upgrade to a 2in 47spline shaft, so even if their close in the begining there is alot more room to upgrade the rocks.... Do you have the shaft measurements? They look incerdibly close in the pics..

got a little bored today so i did a little trimming(till my saw broke) this is how it to start this is partly done im gonna take it to the chrome molding

I was just relaying what the chromo guy said, he said "Im not sure why but the d70 seems to be more prone to breakage than the 14b, they are very simular but for some reason the D70 seems to get broken mor often" So who knows, I dont doubt the d70 is a good axle...
