I also removed the HEI distributor from the original points-style resistor wire that I had hooked it up to. That may have been the problem and it was just slowly fouling the plugs as they were very black. I still have yet to hook up the new wire correctly. Currently it runs from the distributor, through the firewall, directly to a hot lead on the fuse box.

It must be a keyed hot wire or how else do you shut it off? I tried the keyed hot wire first and it worked great for starting when the engine was cold. But when I shut the ignition off the engine would keep running. Another thing I found was that when hooked to the keyed hot wire, was while cranking that particular power source would lose power. Once warmed up it was a real pain to get started. To shut it off I simply reach under the dash and pull the wire off the fuse box. As long as I don't end up working I'll get it fixed this coming weekend.

your starter should have an ignition terminal or just unhook your starter wire for testing perposes and then hold the key on while you search for a good hot keyed wire. Or do what your doing and think of it as an anti theft device.

Check in the fuse box, there should be a terminal that is hot with the key on and hot in crank mode, that is the one you want.

I finally installed the new tube grille I picked up from Kevin a few weeks ago. I also painted it with Krylon Rust Tough Hamm-R to cover up the old paint and scratches. Before (the day I got the truck) And Now

I used my kicker check to help pay for the new exhaust on the truck today. The headers I had sitting in the garage were supposed to fit my truck but they didn't. They "fit" the engine but were totally wrong for a 4x4 with a 4-speed. The passenger header was 6 inches from the output on the transfer case and directly inline with it. The drivers side would bolt up, but then I wouldn't have had a clutch linkage anymore. I remembered that I talked to the exhaust guy in town (the only one I've ever trusted to do exhaust on more than 8 vehicles so far) he offered me some headers for $60. After talking to him again he let me take the headers and try 'em on the truck. The "new" headers fit great so I started to finish up with the installation only to find my straight boot spark plug wires didn't fit anymore. After that was taken care of I headed down to the exhaust shop and 1.5 hours later this was the result: I wanted the mufflers put at the rear for that "gotta be different" sound. And it is a b-e-a-utiful sound.
