use a mig with 75/25 argon/co2. If you dont have a welder and grinder I would wait to start the project. Dont get a $100 wire feed either. You will have alot less frustration if you have a decent welder to work with.

i've got acess to a good wirefeed it's a craftsman that my bro in law got for a steal!! i also have a grinder and a torch i'm just kinda weary cause this would be my first big project!!but with all luck it should go rather well when i'm ready to actually get under way. i think i'll get a ll that i can ready and then dive into it.

if you could get a beat blazer you could use the top and weld the bed rails to it.

Yes i agree with poorboy1.Those little wire feed flux welders are a pain in the but.Vere easy to burn thru sheet metal and they splater like crazy.I am doin a cut and weld on my bronco and was usen one of those.Spent more time lookin at the weld or burn spots goin damit.I am not a chevy guy but that burb with the cut top is bad azz. ;D

I got a good one but went about it the expensive way cough* snap on *cough. Dont recomend that way if you can save up a lil money. I couldnt save any money so I did the truck payment thing. Probly could have got a good miller for half the price. If you want a serious welder let me know your price range and I can see what kind of deal I can get thru work.
Of course I recomend a 220 but the body guys I talk to prefer to use a heavy duty 110 for body work. I did actually get a 110 against my own judgement but have been happy with it of course its a 140amp and I have never had to crank it all the way up. It will weld any thickness of steel I plan on putting on my truck. You cant plug it into any ol house outlet with out upgrading breaker or you will start tripping it. Again it was way more money then it was probly worth. I would go for a millematic if I could. but those aint exactly cheap.

i was thinking in the 200- 300 price range. if that isn't enough let me know and i'll save up more. i really don't wanna spend more than 400 unless i have to!

you can get an "ok" lil 110 for that. Just make sure you splurge for the gas too, flux cor and 110v sucks IMO.
