Well, I stand corrected with egg on my face.
Spark arrestors are indeed required on ALL state public lands, including Sand Lake Recreation Area, Christmas Valley, and the Oregon Dunes National Recreation area (ODNRA). It just hasn't been enforced in the ODNRA and Sand Lake.
In the past, the Forest Service in the ODNRA and Sand Lake Recreation Area have not enforced the spark arrestor law due to several factors (the main ones being the low fuels load in the surrounding environment, and the larger issue of sound).
In the future the Forest Service may chose to enforce the requirement if the environment changes enough to warrent precautions. But I dont see this happening anytime soon.
