I replaced my 22re in my 90 toyota pickup. when doing so we did not know that the throttle control sensor was bad. later down the road had some inspecitno done and foudn that the sensor was bad and broken. when i plug it in the sensor sends my truck into high rev then drops down to idle and back up again. i tried to adjust the position of the sensor but nothing seemed to help. i was told it would just need to be timed but now talking to a local mechanic on the phone he says other wise. So im in a pickle and unsure where to go and i dont want to pay 90 dollars to have them do an ispection. any advice you guys got or questions feel free to ask or even call or text 5035045743

am assuming your talking about the throttle position sensor on the intake... there is a precise way to calibrate these and if not very very close it can cause these problems.. here is a good read. www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/TPS/index.shtml ...... If im thinking correctly. The tps on the 22re is used in conjunction with the air flow meter and the oxygen sensor to adjust the injector pulse width and can cause the truck to run lean-rich on one or more cylinders if adjusted improperly, or jsut keep the system in closed loop resulting in low MPG and over-underheating. thats bout as much as i can do without seeing it... but i have done a coulpe of these TPS and they are a pain, to get adjusted properly.. do you know if the engine you have was a good runner in the last truck

i have a guy here in town who has a 22re that runs with the tps disconnected... had the same problem as you along with so weird issues between 1/4 and 3/4 throttle... and a little bit more than normal temp..
He has a wire somewhere in his harness between the computer and the tps system that is not connected anymore. i pin point tested his pcm connector and found this out.... he was going to sell the truck and let the guy who wanted it deal with it... but that was almost a year ago, and he has driven it ever since. no problems.
