Got this from Stephanie Beall:
Thanks to Clyde Zeller’s planning work, a delivery of many large boulders went into the contract project work on the Phone Murphy timber sale 4 long years ago. As a result, the Murphy Camp flat was covered with crushed rock and a lot of boulders were stockpiled there for an eventual 4WD rock crawl area.
Today Tom Dober of Banks Rock Products donated a day of work with an operator and 90,000 lb. shovel with grapple. We worked together to build a moderate rock crawl on the Murphy Camp Flat today using the boulders they delivered as part of project work included with that timber sale.
Murphy Camp now has a moderate S-Shaped 4WD rock crawl area!
Boulders at each end of the rock crawl are deeply buried to prevent displacement as machines enter and depart the rock crawl. Each side of the rock crawl area is bordered by very large boulders to retain the sides. There is also a good supply of smaller rocks in a nearby pile that users may place by hand in the crawl area if and when desired.
The road ditch line immediately below the flat is now protected by strategically placed boulders to prevent destruction of the road drainage. Please encourage users to utilize the play area provided in the flat and to stay out of the road ditch line and nearby timber.
Have fun! There is cell phone coverage about ½ mile to the west up the Toll Road if you need it.

from ginger creek go up steampot road (might still be called murphys camp road) it will lead u up there. If you go up by way of barney reservoir you can get to it by taking flora mainline but the gates have to be open or you can take barney to north fork to toll road, there are a couple others ways from barney as well.

Most of those roads are in the trask unit. You can also find your way there from tillamook or browns camp.
I can remember seeing big trucks stuck in that ditch line when I was a kid, I can only imagine how deep they got before they closed them.

Wow I need to get out more. all those roads don't sound familure to me..... It's in the Trask Unit not much LEGALLY POSTED wheeling there but thi might open more up? a while ago ( 2 years or so) i talked to Mr Hiatt about the trask unit.... I asked him about the many "unmarked" trails. and his response was along the lines of - the forest service (i think) doesnt care about them as long as they dont impact water in anyway ie streams, ditches, the like.... i guess i would have to get back with him on this subject to clear it up....

dont think it is the same place I am thinking, there is a quarry closer to north fork that has a line of 8' boulders that would be fun to drive on.
