Word of mouth helps..... I sent this to the Vancouver police after this first posting...
---------------------- Bill, thank you for the information. I know our clubs up here are the same as yours. They do not condone the theft of vehicles or stealing of parts. Thanks again. I will be passing this on to our stolen auto squad. Jeff Peterson
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Bill Sent: November 17, 2007 2:13 PM To: VPD Traffic Officer Subject: Stolen vehicles
this is just an FYI.... I belong to a 4x4 club in the Portland area.. and have seen this posting on a few other sites... but as far as i know, no one has repoted this to the Police..... Our club/group has a strict no theft/illegal tollerance...... and thought the Vancouver police might be interested in this clam toward theft... I know its a big problem and hear lot of thefts of toyotas in the portland surounding area as well.... heres the post... and at the very bottom is a link to our site and the tread/posting... --------------------------

Well if those people are theives then good on ya, I only hope they arent being wrongly accused. I didnt look at the links personally because I didnt have enough info that showed they did anything. I've had a truck stolen in the past and know what it feels like to lose one.

when i was working on my truck a few years ago, some guys tryed to seal my truck...no starter or fuel tank, so they stole the tires off the rear (35x14.5 SSRs) the front tires were my old 33s becasuse i had a bad alingment and flat tow it... found the truck on blocks and the fuel tank in the rear and they taged my truck with spray paint!!!!! after that i installed a quick disconect batt cable...couple wing nuts and take the negitive batterie cable with me

when mine was still a daily driver it had a couple hidden switches. Like you said it doesnt stop them from taking stuff. I still have insurance on it not that that make the fealing of being violated any better.

My neighborhood had a red early 80's toyota shortbed stolen a few weeks ago. They think the culprits took the parking brake off and pushed down the road where they either hooked it up and towed it or hot-wired it. I havent seen it returned yet. I immediately put an alarm in mine after hearing about it..I have a motion light on the driveway which I think deters them along with a kill switch hidden in the truck and the fact that the door handles stick so there is noway to open them unless you pull them back down (seems to be a bonus now)... Makes me sad that a person can't build something nice without having to wory about it being stolen, stripped, then abandoned in the woods somewhere.

And yall wonder why I wont live in town. No one comes up to my place uninvited/unannounced. The one night I spent alone at home while Dad was in the hospital, I had trespassers (and i figured out who it was after i almost shot his bronco but damn i missed). After multiple verbal warnings and requests to leave, i let off a few shots with the .22 they left in a damn hurry.
saw on my way into work a toyota in carlton that was up on blocks, where someone had stolen the wheels and tires. cops were there with the owner. looks like another theft.
