I put the charger on the start mode and tried it out sunday night. it was realy slow. It wouldn't re-start after I shut it off. I put the charger on 2 amp slow charge. It had a trouble code on it monday after work. The trouble code says there is a bad cell. I put it on a 2 amp charge over night again and the trouble code was there again today. It is about a year old red top optima. from less schwab.... Should I get a diferent kind of battery? They might warenty it...

what did they test it with? just because it may show 12.6v doesn't mean its good.

optima batteries require a "SHOCK" when they are totally dead. Put it on a 60 amp Start/charge for about 30 minutes then move to a slow charge. Voltage means nothing without amps. Hope this helps

They load tested it twice. The guy said something about them needing to be charged with a 3 amp charger. the one I have is a 2/20/60 amp charger. I used the 2 amp when it had the trouble code. The voltage was 12.6 and it would start the truck. It might be ok.....

Rich has the charger that can recover bad batteries. I think it is a pulse charger or something like that, it took three days to do its thing. we use to have one at work. If it couldnt recover your battery it most likely is junk. I also had a tester that tested the resistance across the cells but not no longer. anyhow hope ya get it to work cause they are too damn spendy to replace with new.

Problem with Schwabs, is some of those guys just know how to test the battery, but don't understand the full functions of the tester. If the cca is programmed wrong, it will say good battery, recharge. Depends also on the type of tester they have. We have 4 different types of testing equipment. I know how to use all of them very well. Those higher cca red tops will sometimes have a bad cell and enough power in the rest of them to make the battery pass the test. We have a tester that will take the surface charge off the battery, test it, load test it then recharge it, all in the same test time. Have another one that is a hand held one that seems to test pretty good too.

You might try another Les Schwab too...and ask for their Best battery guy. The battery is warrantied 100% up to a certain time, then there is a depreciation on it from month to month til the end of the warranty.

I've been leaving the cables un-hooked and it started right up evry time this weekend. I finaly got to try out the new transfer case gears this weekend too. I love them!!!! They worked great. I had been having problems with the first box kicking out of low on me. I seem to of fixed that too. One of the shift rods needed to be shortened and was hotting the shift rod of the other gear case.
