You can get a good smaller like 110 or 130 mIg with gas for about 350-450. The bigger 220 will run you about a grand if you find a good used one I like to use miller personally

I have a 120v craftsman I got 15 years ago, I know, I've never seen another person using one ever, LOL. Its been good to me, the only reason for getting it at the time is I put it on the sears card. I have always used gas with it, never flux core. It was a good learning welder I guess, got me by on most things. The portability is great I can take it anywhere, and fix most stuff. Now at work I got access to 220v and 480v millers almost brand new stuff. they are awesome machines, its like you can't screw up welding with them they work so good. if I could afford one I would get one. there's my 2 cents
edit. mine was around $600 at the time. and a 40 cubic foot bottle is I think $120 to 150 bucks. 40-50 to exchange just bumped up to an 80 cubic foot, much better. $150-180 or so I think and about 60-70 bucks to exchange.

I'm also looking at welders... please keep adding to this thread if you can. I use a 220 ESAB at work and that thing makes me look like a pro. I currently have a Hobart AD/DC stick welder that works great but its stick... Thanks! Nick

I use a Miller 135 cricket. It has worked really well for me from sheet metal to 3/16" thick material. I just picked up a used Lincoln 135 and I'm liking it more than the Miller but that might be because it's a newer machine and has more adjustibility. I have a stick welder if I need to weld thicket stuff. I might sell my Miller but it'll need a little work. It works as it is but the feed motor stops sometimes and the leed will need repaired or replaced if gas is used. The outer cover laid on something hot and melted through in the middle of it.

I don't know how good the Eastwood welders are but they have a might 175, spool gun and plasma cutter on sale $999.99 for the package. I think it comes with gas gage too. Advertised to weld up to 5/16" and cut up to 7/8".

I am thinking that I could get by with a smaller one something like a lincoln 140? Looks like I could work it into my budget easier. Someday down the road upgrade to a larger 220volt. Any pros/cons to this size

Any pros/cons to this size I just saw the other day a Lincoln 140 at Tigard home depot, customer return, at about 256 bucks I do believe. they also had two 125s returns, but there flux core only...I got a ridged roofing gun for like 1/2 off customer return
