Ok so one PITA after another. I bought a used spool and new 456 gears for my D60 and my old ring gear bolts are too long. I cannot find shorter bolts, but do have thick washers that I could use. Does anyone know if this is a bad idea if I use flat washers with thread lock or should I keep looking for shorter bolts? I think 1" long x 1/2" x 20 is what I need. I read some where that only ring rear bolts should be used as they have larger sholders and maybe stronger than grade 8 that you can get at the hardware store. The flange on the spool is thinner than the stock carrier flange.

Johny, I have the same bolts. The problem is the spool bolt flange is 1/8 inch thinner than the stock carrier, and the ring gear bolt hole is not threaded to the bottom of the hole.
For now I am use a thick washer and ground the threads on the ends of the bolts so I can get the axle set up. I can alway change the bolts out later.

If the carrier is thinner is it the right one? Have you test fit it yet with the washers on it?

It's the right one. Almost got it set up. I should only have to change carrier shims one more time to get it within tollerences. There a lettel paint along the top edge so the pinion depth should be ok but the back-lash is 0.014 and should be between 0.006 and 0.010.

I would bet if you used the good loc tite that the washer fix would probably hold up. I would probably try it, but then I try all kinds of stuff that doesnt always work.
