The Jeep you see driving around Hillsboro by any chance be light blue/gray on military tires? If that is the one, they live in my neighborhood. If it's not that one, then there may be another. Only thing I can say is it is TALL, the floorboards are at least 36"-40" inches high. I'd stick with a 60/14b.

It would be pretty tall with rockwells, you need enough clearance to clear the top loader diffs, I doubt that those axles would be setup exactly how you need them and it would be some work to get all the bracketry correctly, then you have to think about the stock 16 spline shafts which are known to break with 44's or 46's, so like Jason said it's BIG $$$ to upgrade to the 2" shafts, then you need to think about lockers and the brakes and steering. It just keeps adding up, you could be 10k into it just to run 54's without the worry of them ever breaking. I would love to do rocks also but then thought of everything I would want to do to them so I don't have to worry kills my pipe dreams. You could get a nice set of 1 tons with chromo shafts, gears and lockers for 3 or 4k, you could easily run 44's like Jason said and maybe 46's or 47's. Just my .02
I watched extreme 4x4 last weekend and like Mike said they built a hybrid 14 bolt with d50 outers, pretty cool but not sure how much the custom shafts would cost. I want to build one in the future so I have rear steer.

i've been looking into hybrid 14 bolt 60 axle and with reid racing knuckles, lockers and axle shafts is like 3k out the door can be done for 1500 with stock knuckles and outers. i've been talking to my buddy ed and don brown and he built a 14 bolt for his willy's and loves it

$3800 for the jeep with the rockwells already in it seems like a pretty good deal, all in all. It's still a 4 cyl though.. I'm thinking of buying it, completing the steering (has two steering rams already) and getting the front end completed, then doing the swap into our V-8 jeep. Then I could put my old axles in that 4 cyl jeep and sell it, or if it's to tall and I don't like it I could always resell it.

Swap the motors and give Tyler the jeep back with the 4 cylinder. That other Jeep probably has take out axles so you could be spending a lot of $$ on upgrades like Josh mentioned. Also, the brackets do not look like there made for a linked system. I see an inverted leaf in the rear. I think you could do the 14 bolt/D50 cheaper and have the clearance you need.

I'm not sure but it might be a little tall with something like 54" tires on the jeep.. It would be fun on and off the street though!

It's a TTB dana 50. It would not work for me, and from what I've read.. They are complete junk. I've never read about anyone putting one in a jeep. I'm not sure what you are saying about getting $50 outers.

I'm not sure what you are saying about getting $50 outers. You'd need a straight axle D50. You cut the nuckle off the D50 housing and weld it to a 14 bolt short tube and cut the tube with nuckle off the other side of the D50 long enough to weld to the 14 bolt long side with a slug insert and trussed for extra strength. From what I understand the weak part of the D50 is the center section and inner axle shaft where it tapers to fit in the carrier.

To create a 14 bolt steer axle, vary strong. the yellow cage buggy has one, the one that rolled at summer bash I forget his name..... f250diesel

rusty get this one I would even drive it, even know its a jeep corvallis.craigslist.org/cto/3609778846.html1955 M38A-1 Military Jeep on Rockwell Axles and 44" Swampers. I built this jeep back in 2003. I have since mondifed it several times to make it better. The original layout had leafsprings up front with a small cage over the front seats and a large fuel cell in the back. Over the years of wheeling I found that I needed a more suspension travel up front and seating for 4. I have wheeled the jeep all over the Northwest. There has always been one goal in mind when building this jeep, overbuild it right the first time so it won't break and no need to cary extra parts on the trails. Here is a list of the major feature of the jeep: -All steel body streached 10" in the rear fenderwells. -Original frame streached 10" boxed and modified for strength. -6 point cage tied to the frame with aluminum and lexen roof. -Chevy 355C.I. small block, full roller motor with World products Iron cylinder heads, Holley carb. with snorkel that goes under the dash. -Turbo 350 Transmission with full manual valve body and reverse patten shift. -NP205 transmission with twin sticks, and 1410 output, .250 wall driveshafts. -2.5 ton Rockwell Axles, spooled with pinion brakes. -Coil springs front with a 3 link, coil springs rear with a 4 triangulated 4 link. - 44/19/15 Super Swampers on MRW 20 bolt beadlocks. -Full hydrollic steering. -10,000 lbs. winch. -Mastercraft seats with 5 point harnesses. -Aluminum dash with Auto meter Guages and removable steering wheel. -10 gal. fuel cell. $5800 OBO.
