Just to be clear that is 84 Miles of Oregon trails they are closing if we do nothing!
When does it stop? I remember when Browns Camp was fun without all the rocks in it...
I remember places so many places that have already been closed down.
If we do nothing, why do we even have 4x4's and ATVs? We will not have a place to ride them.
We all need to stand up and say [glow=red,2,300]NO MORE! [/glow] STOP TAKING LAND FROM US!

We all have a comfort zone where we feel warm, fuzzy, and safe, but at some point, we have to force ourselves out of that comfort zone and take action. How much are we willing to lose? Who else is going to do it? We must start now.”
I found this quote from the NOHVCC (National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council) particularly striking. Through the process of scoping last year and now the DEIS released by the Forest Service, I have found myself forced out of my comfort zone daily. While once I might have melded with the shadows, I, and our whole group at A Line in the Sand, are out in the community spreading the word about these potential closures. Personally, I have even gone up to people at gas stations when I see they have quads and interjected into people’s conversations in restaurants (people I don’t even know!) when I hear them talking about ATVs! I never imagined I would be a land-use advocate. My point? You can be also!! Do what takes you out of your comfort zone. Write the comment letter to the Forest Service. Ask all your friends to write letters. Talk to people about these closures. It is going to take all of us to stop this! Thanks everyone!

This is an example of the trails they will close and my email to them..
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read this. My family of 5 and I go sand camping on the coast for our vacations every year. We have been doing this for the past 17 years. Each year we have been going to events like Dune fest, Raptor rallies, Sand and flee events, Sand Jam’s as well as going AVT riding as the cost at Winchester bay, Florence and Coos Bay. Most of the trails we ride on have no names that I’m aware of, but we ride all the trails, every time we go to the sand. That is our fun. We are not big fans of riding the big open dunes as my children have not been able to go up most of them until just this last year. I will try and describe the locations we trail ride to the best of my ability. Winchester Bay. 1. My daughters favorite set of trails are at Winchester bay. They are the set of trails between the concrete road and the open dunes. They continue past the end of the concrete road all the way to the boundary line, between the beach and the open dunes. She is loves them because they are not too difficult for her and some of the corners have angles that she loves. We spend quite a lot of time in those trails every time we go to Winchester bay. 2. My oldest son loves the harder trails at Winchester (and other locations). Each time we are down their, Tyler, Jonathon and I ride the trail we call “widow maker”. It is an unmarked trail just before “Banshee Hill” (we all now go up Banshee hill as well). We also love the tree dig and trail areas between what we call the 2nd and 3rd fingers on the opposite side of the coast at Winchester bay. 3. We camp out in the sand as much as we can. We like camp are “C” during Dune fest and wish more sand camping would be available year around. Florence dunes: 1. Just off the “whoop road” by Driftwood Campground, between the beach and the open dunes are a set of trails that extend all the way to the end. These trails are fun to ride and not to challenging for younger riders. They are also no as busy so my children feel more at home in this area and the smaller quads can ride in this area easier then in the open dunes. When not on the quads, there is a main road that we take our dune buggy on and enjoy seeing the deer and animals. 2. On the north end of Florence there are several trails between South Jetty road and the next open set of dunes that we ride on. These trails on the east side of the dunes and some are more challenging then the ones mentioned above. 3. Again, we try and ride on every trail at Florence, every time we are down their. 4. We also camp on the sand as much as we can. We use to be able to camp anywhere, now it is much harder to get sand camping spots and we are worried some of those will be closed as well. Coos Bay: 1. The tail section between Boxcar camp grounds that extend past a couple hills, until the trials turn back into the open section are my middle son’s favorite set of trails. Jonathon and his older brother and their friend spend hours in those trails on each of our camping trips. 2. Kimberly, my daughter likes the trails by Hose fall lake and some of those trails extend miles north. 3. We all love the trails by spirit lake and the hosefall beach campground. 4. We ride the trails between the two main open riding dunes. 5. We have camped out in the sand for years around the lakes. It would be a shame if these areas would be closed.
We LOVE the trails and would seriously consider selling our quads, truck and trailer, and no longer go to the sand for vacations if these designated route changes go into effect.

A small group called "a line in the sand" is speaking with a 4x4 group (Flat Boke) about saving our sand riding. I hope most know that the Forest Service is attempting to shut down 84 miles of sand trail riding from Florence down to Coos Bay. The meeting will be Wednesday 7:30 PM Round Table Pizza, 10150 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Highway, Beaverton, OR, 97005. Would love to have you in the audience! We are really trying to promote our rally and get our attendee number high. Thanks

My name is Jon Vanderzee and I love the sand. I'll ride dirt bikes four wheelers and 4xs all year around of I could. But I get to go maybe once air twice a year cause its so expensive. Ive been to see sand lake, Florence, and whinchester and hope to someday visit them all. Please don't ruin my family vacations.
