oops I new Id put my foot in my mouth. you know what I mean the cheep bikes vs the good ones. growing up my mom would always buy me the 39.99 Fred meyer specials. And all my friends had dimondbacks and redlines,,, or what ever they are, the expensive ones. riding them there is a big differance between the two.

its ok jonny.......... for a while there the bikes from china were really bad....in the last 5 or so years they have gotten way better as almost all bikes are now made in china, even some of the high end brands are now produced in china..... so some of the dept store bikes are made along side bikes you find at bike shops..... in some cases the only difference is the components they build them with.....there is a forum I go on called bigboxbikes..... some of the guys have done amazing things with their bikes on there....some of the guys on there even show how to build them up on the cheap....some of the bike forums are a bunch of snobs that think you need to spend a minimum of $3k on a mountain bike.....if you are racing or doing some crazy hardcore stuff I can see spending that kind of green for a bike..... but for those of us that ride on the street, bike paths and mild dirt trails.... its not worth it to spend that much...... plus some people cant afford that much.....I always say get the best you can afford.... wheather its 4x4 stuff or a mountain bike.....

nice!!!I have always like kona bikes , but have never owned one..... started with a diamondback many years ago, upgraded to a cannondale M400.... a raleigh M-80 hardtail( got stolen )and the last bike I had 10 years ago was a haro vector hardtail I picked up used the above bikes were the good bikes I have had over the years.... I had a number of dept store bikes... in high school i rode used dept store bikes mom and dad picked up at second hand stores or yard sales..... I had an jc penny road bike from the late 70s or early 80d I guess..... it was a lugged frame held together with tack welds...lol.... one of my friends rode it down some stairs and broke the frame in half.......my parents were not happy about that..... when I got a job at mcdonalds toward the end of my senior year I bought a huffy mountain bike.... had that for a few months and got hit by a pinto...... it bent the frame and back wheel..... i found another bike a sears outlet store that was new in the box , but missing some parts....... I put the 2 bikes together and had some spare parts, I tossed the bent frame and wheel....... I rode that bike for 4 years... it was my only transportation.....I traded the bike and some cash to a guy for a new roadmanster mountain bike....... the thing was a heavy tank of a bike....... I hated it, so i gave it to my dad and went to a bike shop and got a $200 diamondback outlook....riding the 2 bikes was a night and day difference..... that was back in the early 90s..... dept store bikes have come along way since then....

It really looks like the mongoose frame hasn't really changed at all in the last decade.

Only took them a decade lol. I had a yellow mongoose at one point. Hated it, the bounce while pedaling was brutal. I was a little apprehensive when I got the kona but after swapping the rear shock to a 5 way adjustable and some tuning its pretty comfortable over all.

I need a suspension fork for my Raleigh... All I know about it is it's a Raleigh, I'm guessing M60 but have no idea (it's got a nice bottom bracket and the frame is thin light, and strong so I'm pretty sure it's not M20 or M40). Back at OSU I did the surplus auctions and bought lots of bikes and parts for super friggin cheap ($5-50 for a lot of ~10 bikes of varying quality and such) all abandoned or confiscated on campus so there was some crap and some jems, I was broke then so got the bottom dollar lots but ended up with this frame, started assembling all of the highest quality parts that I happened upon and ended up with a decent bike other than just having a cheapo Mongoose front fork which probably weighs about half what the rest of the frame does... Right now it has no suspension.
I'll get pics when I get home
I started with this because one year I brought my Nishiki Pueblo (Costco bike I got from the auctions, that was a decent bike for what I had in it too) home for Christmas break to be "safe" at my moms, was stolen within a couple days of Christmas so I started scrounging through my parts and found the frame with bottom bracket only, found a couple wheels in decent shape, pulled the Mongoose fork off another bike I had (still not a Mongoose... go figure), found one mismatched pair of V brake levers that I put in the front, found a pair of center pull levers I put in the back, found an aluminum handle bar, some trigger shifters, and some decent derailers... anyway, pics will show the rest in a few days

I most likely have a spare quick release rear wheel, probably don't have a skewer, most likely have ~$5 in it... I kinda grab them when I find them for that cheap...

oh, it's one of the small ones... it's possible I have one laying around but at my moms house not mine... I think the freewheels are available for those at bike shops, it's possible I do have a free wheel somewhere, actually fairly positive I have a complete cheezy style rear hub without spokes... I'll look this weekend
