Bad pic but that ball bearing is only a half a bearing. Heard a noise in the front end......

Not sure if the car was trying to tell me some thing for driving a bug with purple stripped interior...... That is a G not a 6, the wheel bearings said the same thing. The G probably stands for Germany or some thing.

I had similar issues with my bug. One bearing wore a deep groove into the race and the other bearing had the balls half worn away.

Lol, exactly what happened on mine. The broken ball bearings came out of the pass side and the drivers had a sevearly galled inner race. It made me glad I bought parts for both sides. Tapered rollers went in instead of ball bearing.

Been tinkering some more, added a filter and fuel pressure regulator and went from 22mpg to 27.9mpg @65-70. I'm going to yank the 009 out and put in a vac/mech advance, add a pertronix kit, re-time/tune and see if I can get 30 mpg. Wife like the brows so they went on and I put new running boards on, hated the aluminum boards. Still need a roof rack and raise it a bit and paint.

22-28mpg at 70mph isn't too bad for a 47 year old car. Think I average about 25mpg with mine when I was driving it with everyday, compared to 8mpg I couldn't be happier. Hoping it stays the same when I switch to dual carbs. Sounds like it's working out pretty good. Keep it up!

Putting on Weber 34ict's. Got them and the manifolds for free, just need rebuilding and throttle linkages. Today I'm putting rear disc brakes on to match the fronts I did last year.

Is that the dual single barrels? I can't remember what I have nomenclature wise I know their single barrel webers. If I can't get them tuned properly I was thinking about yanking them to put a single 34pict solex back on. I still get a pop here and there even after putting the regulator on and I have no top end, all it does it make noise in the higher rpm's. I'm hoping adjusting the valves and re-timing with a vac advance/mech dizzy will help. Discs would be cool, wish I could find a cheap set. I saw brand new front disc kits for the big five but their for ball joint front ends only

Biggest thing on the dual carbs is you need them to synchronized with each other. Can't remember off the top of my head the symptoms, though. To sync them you have to find someone who has one or buy a carb sync tool. What are you doing with the old parts? My rear breaks wheel cylinders are messed up. They were just going to go in the scrap pile. Both wheel cylinders are less then a year old. If you want them you can have them.

Found part of my problem, the coil loosened up again so I had to replace the screw for the clamp and I happened to notice the plug was all green in side. Cleaned up and it's doing much better until I try to cruise low speed in 4th, not sure if the carbs are icing up with that stupid louvered deck lid.

Fan belt broke yesterday, I was stuck by exit 19 on the 205 for 1 hour 40 minutes. No one stopped, people just honked now and again, F*** Mother F***ing Portland. Found the alt pulley was missing shims and the outer half was walking around causing the belt to fail, then I found the treads were jacked up. Got a factory fan shroud for a dog house style cooler with all the tins, alt, and deck lid. Picked a new hood up as well. drained the oil and adjusted the valves today and it seems much happier. And just a reminder for other air cooled vw owners, if you don't have all 10 shims in the pulley, may want to buy a shim kit or you could get stranded too.
