The only thing I can think of is someone tried to drive off with the emergency brake on and busted it up.

I wonder if this might be a same part that is on a Chevy or Ford disk brake rear end? It looks like the rear end is a 11.5 American axle that came in the 2500 and 3500 2003-2007 dodge and the 01 and up HD Chevys but not positive. Here's what it should look like. Here's the broken part.

um im pretty sure fords sterling axles and dodge chevy use american axle manufacturing 03+ cummins use the same rear axle as 01+ dmax i know that for sure

I know I saw the differences between the chevy pinion (Newer) and ford/dodge/chev 14 bolt and WOW.. The new Chevy Pinion is HUGE.. I don't think any parts would be interchangable on the axle.

ik that all the internals are all interchangeable between the 03+ dodge and 01+ chevy aam 11.5 id amagine that the external parts would be the same

Took the truck to Puyallup swap meet and averaged between 18 and 19mpg. There seems to be a sweet spot just under 65mph.

I think I averaged 22 pulling a empty trailer(1500lbs) down to medford and about 17 back with like 5-6000 on the trailer. but its a automatic, not sure if the overdrive gearing is the same??

nv5600 6th gear=.73 od 48re 4th gear= .69od i honestly dont think unless you spun a cummins to 4500rpm in od you would ever really see a difference

those are allways reading high the one in my dads truck read about 1.5-1.75 mpg high even on the stock programing ive seen them be off by as much 9mpg.............although a good party trick is making them read 99mpg avg

I wish my computer told more then I was getting. Mine tells me 8mpg, but I'm actually getting closer to 11mpg.

lol your comp would have been acurate for the old forest service 1/2ton i had i got a best tank of 11.42 mpg once my 12v cummins gets about 15 around town with a heavy foot....i make that straight pipe roar lol
