I'm really on the fence right now about this thing. I'm not super comfortable with hor tippy it is and the wheelbase is freakin short. If i do keep it it's gonna need some tires real soon. The rear tires are passed the wear bars and the front are about 1/8th of an inch from them.

Well today was a pretty uneventful day. Got to browns, drove on archers for about a mile and my coil spring popped out and the shock broke off its mount. Popped the coil back in and drove for a while and it popped again. So it ended up sitting on archers for about 4 hours while I rode with somebody else.
So I need to figure out a way to keep the coil in place or use auditing strap/chain. Also my brakes won't fully disengage so they were pretty hot all day.
So I have a few things to fix before I head back up again.
Also my engine is running like total crap and I might have a blown headgasket so a 4.0 or v8 is in my future. Maybe this next winters project.

Well I really wanna lock up my rear, and possibly to front end. And being a poorboy I am looking at Lincoln locking. But my 8.8 being posi it has some clutch pads right where it would need to be welded for Lincoln locking so I have to look at some other options. I did a little reading and from what I'm seeing a spool is basically the same thing as Lincoln locking? I can get a mini spool for less than $100.

Try shimming the heck out of the limited slip, I'll give you some steels and clutches to use, it's an afternoon job, easier if you have 3.73 or taller gearing as the ring gear gets in the way of the S spring. When you start locking the Dana 35 the hubs become an issue and buying the $250 steel Jeep hubs (the right part number is on The Ranger Station, I don't know it off the top of my head) or getting a bunch of spare hubs is needed since they're dead simple to replace as you know.
On the springs falling out, some people get away with a hose clamp or two around the top coil and the coil bucket, but it's recommended to make a J hook to go around the top coil and bolt to the spring bucket. I had one of mine fall out too and didn't have anything so ended up wrapping a SS zip tie around the coil like 5 times, will replace it with a J hook or something soon

I talked to my cousin some and he seems pretty confident we could weld it. Thanks for the offer I'll let you know if I need them or not.

It's been done before so it should be doable

Well it looks like I have a cracked head or a blown headgasket. My cousin offered to sell me the 2.9 out of his ranger when he gets it pulled. I figure I'll take it and put all new gaskets on it and re-ring the pistons while it's pulled and I should have a Pretty good running engine.

yeah, the heads on the 2.9L have a tendency to crack if overheated

How much would you want for one of those?

I have one that was on the big end of the tolerances and still has the factory trw forged pistons in it I'd let go for 50$ to get it out of my way. I was going to just roll new bearings in it and hit the cylinders with a hone and use as a spare, I can't remember if it still has a cam tho. My assembled engine is .030 over, cranks been chamfered, after market main bolts, girdle, b303 cam, gt40p heads, ford racing P headers. Long block id could do 500 on and if you want the fuel injection stuff another 200.
Forgot it also has arp head studs and assembled with new felpro .032" gaskets. The fuel injection stuff would be my tank with 96 cobra pump, lines out of the stang, explorer intake with 65mm tb, EEC harness with a9l ecu all the sensor to make it run.

Well the 2.9 might not be toast just yet. The foamy white stuff that was under the oil cap is gone and the oil on the dipstick looks ok. The loss of water might just be my heater core leaking. Also check out my old air filter And here it is now.

Some milkyness on the oil fill can be normal if the vehicle makes short runs across town with out being warmed up. It's pretty much just condensation that doesn't get burned off. That old filter was f$&@'d lol wow.
