the lake you have in the link is part of camp Meriweather boy scout camp, they have 3 sided cabins up the steps off the beach, I know its private but i have known people to camp there in the summer......given the description of a lake i would assume that the lake at the camp ground would be sand lake but from what i know about our local history That is Chamberlain lake. Named after the Chamberlain Family who sold it to the boy scouts of America in 1926 (after there camp up the Kilchis burned down in 1925)... The tidelands that are around the campgrounds are from the creeks in the area and one of them just happens to be called sand creek, so?
the area above the shoe tree is on the verge of being offlimits, there are no signs but there is also no trails further than that area...and there are some wet areas under the trees too small for trucks but there are some awesome bogs for quads down there.
I still have no idea why its called sand lake, figure its becuase when first found someone said it was a lake of sand
I have acutally asked lots of people about why sandlake is called sandlake

Looking up camp meriwether was more informative then sandlake. I guess the tide water by the camp ground is "sand lake estuary". I guess whalen island and sand creek estuary is part of it.
Side note though. If you go on knowyourcoast.com they have some killer photos of the coast from different angles. I never knew that at the end of the cliffs that you see from sandlake is a big ass cave. Huh, I thought it was cool.

Is there really a lake in the middle of the woods like the map shows? If so I have never been to it. That would be something to go look at this weekend. if it's not to bad to get to.

if you view the google map as a terrain map it shows sand lake as the one north of the ohv map. and if it makes anyone feel any better i always thought it was sand lake cause there was lots of sand and the bowls were the "lake" like all the water was not there but the lake was made of sand DANG!!!!! i wouldnt admit that in public...lol jk

Yea there is deff a lake up there.... I have been there MANY times.... you can go up there via the stairs off the beach or the rocky road area off the one-way out in no-mans land.....
I have been on a dory out there a couple of times just cruisen from pacific city to garabaldi (BTW I hate boats) and there are a lot of caves on them there hills....
if you go even further up the coast, to near cannon beach. There is the Tillamook rock light , its not really a lighthouse anymore but a place for people to send there loved ones Urns, but i have been told its not in operation anymore...That was pretty cool actually
The cave in Oceanside is man made, it was blasted by the Rosenburg Family in the 1930's i believe.
BTW how did this topic shoot off into history of Oregon coast lol oh well

Also in the tree line there is private property. I hung out with the owners. They said the cops can't do anything about them drinking in the sand cuz it is private property. Guess there was many lots sold back years ago and there is only two or three lots that were not donated to the county or bought. So I was told.
