I would say stay with the 14 bolt, it has many options and is cheep to put a locker in, if the spool becomes to much of an annoyance on the street. flat tops are only good if you decide to do cross over steer, which can be a bit of an investment. Id say don't worry about it till you get all the other pieces. you can find them on CL from time to time.

or do i go with a flat top and 60 combo? A king pin dana 60 is basically already a "flattop",,, your steering arm, (or steering arms, if you go hi-steer) bolt to top of the knuckle....

the 14 and 10 bolt is the combo i ran in my blazer forever until i found a flat top knuckle dana 44 for free from a buddy and it took me a day to swap the axles in with hand tools and a floor jack and cherry picker. I ran my 39.5 tsl on them and as long as ur smart and for mostly street they will hold just fine. worst part was the ujoint for the rear it was a 1310 combined with somethin else

An eight lug 44, or ten bolt should be pretty much just a bolt in... Or you could swap the Eight lug stuff onto your six lug 44... Although im not sure if the ten bolt stuff swaps over, I know i read it, but ive forgotten a lot over the last 5 years As far as putting cross over steering on a d44 or ten bolt, Unless you get the parts for damnnear free, I personally would stash that money away until you can find a 60. Ive heard of some guys gettin some pretty insane deals on a Dana 60. Keep your eyes peeled.
