The Idea behind this mod, is to grind the front shift rail, so that you can shift the truck into front wheel high and low, while keeping the rear wheels in Neutral. Allowing front wheel drive. You start by draining the case, by removing the PTO cover, and then cleaning the top of the t-case. Alot of times you can't see the freeze plugs. you will find TWO small freeze plugs. looking at the case from the front (where it mates to the transmission), the plug nearest the input of the case, will be the plug you want. This case is a ford case, so it's the left, it will be opposite for a chevy. Punch this plug out. (it will be in the case and you can get it later) You will see a pin holding the shift fork to the rail. punch out this pin also.

Next you remove the largeplug/bolt in front of this hole. As shown above. Inside there will be a spring and a small ball bearing. remove the spring, and then the ball, you will have to use a small magnet to do so.

Find the hole that lines up inside and put a pick or something in it to hold the shift fork in place, while removing the shift rail from the front. (not shown) this pic is from an already torn apart gm 205 i had in the garage. you can see the hole that the rail came out.

once the rail is properly modified, slip it back in, and replace the pin and freeze plug. Then the ball, spring, and bolt. Make sure it shifts properly. if not, you may need to remove the rail for further grinding. (note: careful not to grind too much, this could allow you to shift into opposite ranges at the same time.) example: front in low, rear in high. different ratios not good

If the rail opposite is in Neutral (centered), you should now be able to shift the front range rail into high/low, without moving the rear rail. If this works correct then congrats you have sucessfully converted your case.
